About RU

About RU ✎

Follow your curiosity and read historical romances in community with other fans of the subgenre. Make it as lighthearted or as academic as you like, and enjoy optional side quests!

How to Play

  • Rolling enrollment - if at any time you want to participate in an active session or Summer Camp program, grab a template, share, and tag us! To stay up to date with session reminders and to ensure you’re in our gradebook, make sure to sign up for our newsletter as well.

  • When a new session begins, we will make templates available. Students can then fill out the syllabus template to reflect their reading goals for the session. We ask that students set three reading objectives and add four books to their syllabus that fit each objective. Once a student posts their syllabus to their Instagram stories and tags us, we add that student to our gradebook. If you would like to participate without using Instagram, contact us and we will set up a custom book report submission form for you.

  • Throughout a session, as students finish books, they fill out short review templates (book reports) and post those to their stories and tag us. We keep track of what everyone is reading in the gradebook.

  • Many unique extra credit opportunities arise each session! In the past, students have received extra points for reading diversely, for supporting indie authors, for participating in the Trans Rights Readathon, and much more.

  • One of our most popular session features is the Lecture Series, which is open to all, regardless of enrollment.

  • Each book report is worth 1pt, unless an extra credit opportunity means it’s worth more.

  • At the end of each session, the participant with the most points is our Top Student and has won a prize! A second winner is randomly selected, and each point earned during the session is an entry into our random giveaway. The number of winners and the contents of the prize are subject to change and will be set at the beginning of each session.

  • The specific prize is announced at the beginning of the session, and the winners are announced once the session is closed and all extra credit opportunities have expired. Before announcing winners, we will check in with participants and verify their scores.

Prizes and giveaways are not affiliated with Meta, Squarespace, or anyone else who isn't a private citizen. No purchase necessary. Open internationally. If our intended prize isn’t available internationally, we’ll work one-on-one with the winner to find an appropriate substitution. Emily and Kelsey will only ever contact winners via an official RU point of contact. On Instagram, we conduct official RU business through @RomancelandiaUni

Dates for official 12 week sessions are posted to our calendar. They are also shared on instagram and via our newsletter.

Our Headmistresses

Emily & Kelsey have been chatting HR since Kelsey posted about The Fitzhughs series by Sherry Thomas and an as-of-yet-not-even-on-Booksta Emily reached out for emotional support while reading Ravishing the Heiress. They’ve unpacked dozens or even hundreds of books together since then.
